Giovanni Agostini
Giovanni focuses on the representation of mixed cultures and a non-western approach to art and design for a western audience. Cultural heritage is a key part to his identity as a maker and designer used to source potential forms and functions. Giovanni's mixed ethnicity and how it has rooted him, and his family, despite having moved frequently, living in places such as Sweden or Bosnia and Herzegovina is often the root for much of his work. He aims to try and mix South Asian and European design to make unique works that combine lived experiences, cultural heritage, and the needs of people. The hope with much of his work is to gently educate a mainly western audience to what is outside of their direct sphere.
Giovanni uses small batch or one-off works to focus on each project’s identity, attempting to grow a deeper connection between the user, artefact and maker. His work is mostly material and function lead, using continues experimentation, the exploration of new materials, and making styles to further grow and develop. With a current focus on ceramics and wild clays, He has been researching its South Asian history, uses, and potential.
